Summer Has Begun...
Summer has begun. Here are the things I am currently working on: re-reading the novel of The Mill on the Floss, reading Trauma and Recovery, anxiously waiting for the designers names to be posted so they can get their scripts (which are in my mailbox waiting). I do know my costume designer-- Mallory. We had one meeting and few other excited conversations. In our meeting we read a couple scenes aloud. I showed her some of the images in my notebook that interest me most, we spoke about the trials of casting this show. In terms of casting, I originally asked for 8 actors. 4 men and 4 women. That's how the original production did it. Now, however, I am thinking about asking for a couple more women. Ideally, a couple more men and women, but definitely women. We'll see, though. J Ball recently agreed to take on the position of dramaturge on the show. He recommended the book Trauma and Recovery. We spoke about the role of the dramaturge in this process and agreed that while there is plenty of research to be done-- book-work, there is a stronger interest in connecting the material to socio-political, morality and current life. Of course, if I can find that thread in the play, my job directing will be much simpler. I am just beginning this blog. So far the entries are generally general and that's okay. In some ways, I am already playing catch up. But as I settle into summer. I will document the work I have already done and be vigilant about maintaining an up-to-date account of the work I am processing.
